On May 5, 2012, our University hosted the EFL National Competition for Secondary School Students as a main sponsor. This competition is organized annually by the English Language Teachers’ Association of Macedonia (ELTAM). 67 high school students from all over the country entered the competition. This year’s novelty was the competition for the non-conventional programs for secondary schools in Macedonia (3rd year students, state and private schools). The competition for the conventional programs is for the 2nd year students.
During the competition, the teacher-mentors attended the workshop “Teaching EFL with Limited Resources”, which was delivered by UACS’ English language instructor Jovanka Jovanchevska-Milenoska and Jory Peterson, a Peace Corps EFL volunteer. ELTAM and UACS signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2010 and this is the second time the EFL National Competition for Secondary School Students has been organized by their joint efforts. Both times the event was a sheer success, which can only be attributed to the efforts and successful coordination of the ELTAM board members and the UACS staff, as well as the other sponsors and collaborators of ELTAM.
