With the consciousness of superior characteristics required by the dominant principles of their universities and of their supreme responsibilities as being the safeguards of enlightened life, in order to cooperate to provide support to education and research in higher education and meet in common values, the chancellors and senior representatives of leading universities from various countries of the world convened firstly in the conference titled “Today and Tomorrow of Science and Higher Education in the Middle East” conducted in Yeditepe University, Istanbul on 17-18.12.2009 and secondly in “Higher Education and Science Workshop” conducted in Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus on 7-11.04.2010 and decided to establish International University Council (ICU).
In an attempt to build a strong academic research and education system, IUC (International University Council) was established with the participation of leading universities and cooperation of Orhan Hikmet Azizoğlu, the Council Chairman and seven founder chancellors on 09.04.2010 with its headquarters in Ankara, Turkey. Purpose of the council is to provide services for mainly Member Universities, organizations, institutions and active individuals contributing to Higher Education, specialists, academicians, researchers and students within the framework of “Common Higher Education Values”.
