34 Years of Monetary Independence: Honoring the Foundations of Macedonia’s Economic Sovereignty
On April 28, 2026, we proudly marked a historic milestone—34 years of monetary independence of the Republic of Macedonia—through an inspiring event jointly organized by Delta Mu Delta Pi Alpha and the University American College Skopje.
At the center of the program was the compelling discussion, “How the Paper for the First Macedonian Banknotes Was Secured.” Our distinguished speakers were not only witnesses to this pivotal moment in history, but key architects of it: Mr. Borko Stanoevski, the first Governor of the independent National Bank following the country’s independence, and Professor Tome Nenovski, then Deputy Governor.
Through their reflections, they shared the complex decisions and challenges they faced, offering a powerful glimpse into the dedication, responsibility, and resolve that defined this critical period.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed speakers and to all attendees who helped make this meaningful celebration a success.
