8th International Conference of the Word and Music Association Forum (WMAF), titled “Sacrum et Profanum in Words and Music”

The School of Foreign Languages at University American College Skopje will proudly host the 8th International Conference of the Word and Music Association Forum (WMAF), titled “Sacrum et Profanum in Words and Music”, from May 21–23, 2026.

The conference will bring together around thirty scholars, researchers, and artists from Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, North Macedonia, the United States, Türkiye, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Ukraine, creating a vibrant interdisciplinary dialogue on the relationships between sacred and profane dimensions in words and music studies.

The conference will explore a broad range of topics, including the sacred and the profane in literature and music, ritual and performance, mythology and mysticism, secularization, political and cultural crises, and the transformations of spirituality in contemporary societies. Through presentations, discussions, and exchanges of ideas, the conference will continue the WMAF mission of fostering an open and collaborative environment for both emerging and established scholars working in word and music studies.

The conference will be organized by Ivana Trajanoska and Jan Czarnecki. presidents of the WMAF.

The official conference poster is designed by Martina Savin, student at the School of Architecture and Design at UACS.

The organizers warmly welcome all participants, presenters, students, and colleagues and look forward to inspiring discussions and interdisciplinary exchange that will further strengthen the field of word and music studies.
